Are you looking to branch out to a new cannabinoid product? If you’ve never tried them, you might have considered hemp edibles.
Essentially, a hemp edible is your favorite cannabinoid such as Delt 8, THCO, or HHC in a medium that you can eat rather than smoke or dab. You can also decarboxylate hemp flower and use it as part of your baking process or infuse it into your favorite oils!
If you’re looking to try a new cannabinoid hemp edible, this guide is for you. We’re going to cover some common varieties of edibles that you can try as well as some tips to enjoy a whole new set of vibes.
These are by far the most popular type of hemp edible. Cannabinoid gummies come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and flavors. You can find them online or at your local retailer. Many love gummies for their sweet, juicy taste and the endless variety of flavor combinations.
Cannabinoid varieties commonly found in gummies include:
- Delta 8
- Delta 9
- Delta 10
When we’re talking about edible cannabinoid mushrooms, we’re not talking about psychadelics. These mushrooms have a different magic to them all their own!
These mushrooms are high quality shiitake that contain added cannabinoids like THC-O and Delta 8. They can be eaten as-is for an intense sensation or cooked in with your favorite dishes for a new dimension of flavor.
Do you both love cooking and consuming cannabinoids? You can do both by infusing smokable hemp flower into your favorite cooking oils!
To do this, the flower first needs to be decarboxylated (or “decarbed”). This process is rather simple and can be done in under an hour.
First, break the flower into smaller pieces using your fingers and spread them out on a cookie sheet. Each piece should be about the size of a pea. Avoid using a grinder if possible, because this can affect the overall potency and taste.
After this, preheat your oven to 240 degrees Fahrenheit and double-check its true temperature with a thermometer. Once you’ve reached a true 240, place the cookie sheet in and let the flower bake for 20 minutes.
Once 20 minutes have passed, remove the flower from the oven and move the pieces around on the sheet. Then, place the sheet back in the oven for another 20 minutes. After this, remove the flower, and you are done! You have successfully decarboxylated your hemp.
Once this has finished, you can begin infusing your oils with hemp. Here is a quick way to do this:
- Place a double-boiler on your stove and turn it on
- Add 1 cup of olive oil to the double boiler along with your hemp flower
- Occasionally monitor the oil’s temperature to make sure it never exceeds 210 degrees
- After approximately 5-6 hours in the boiler, remove and strain into a container using a cheesecloth.
- You now have infused olive oil! Place it in an airtight container to keep it as fresh as possible when you’re ready to cook.
You can also use your infused oils and butters as ingredients in your favorite baked goods like homemade brownies, cookies, and cakes. You can create a delicious snack that also helps you relax!
Tips for Trying Cannabinoid Hemp Edibles for the First Time:
If Purchasing Edibles, Do So From a Reliable Retailer:
When it comes to hemp edibles, not all products are created equal. Make sure you do your research on the company and the product before making a purchase. Purchase them from a reliable retailer with expertise in cannabinoids.
If Baking, Do So Before Eating or Smoking Hemp:
If you’re going to be consuming hemp flower in any form, it’s best to do so after you’ve already baked with it. Since you will be working with heat, you want to have your full attention on the oven or stove so that you do not risk forgetting that you have them on and risk burning your edibles or creating a fire.
Start with Small Amounts:
Cannabinoid hemp edibles can be very potent, especially if you’re new to them. It’s important to start with small amounts and increase as needed. This will help you avoid any negative side effects like anxiety or paranoia.
Certain edibles may take up to two hours to fully kick in. Avoid the temptation to consume more before the first dose has had time to take effect. Edibles are metabolized more slowly in the body compared to smoking or vaping.
Keep your edibles in a safe, dry place away from children and pets. Edibles that look like regular candy can be especially tempting to kids. Make sure they are clearly labeled and out of reach.
